Understanding local governance in Abdiaziz District: What is the challenge & how to improve? February 5th 2024
The Heritage Institute partnered with Abdiaziz District and Interpeace under the Talo Wadaag II program in organizing a one-day workshop that aimed at understanding the effectiveness of Abdiaziz governance practices from local authorities’ perspectives and everyday experiences. More than two-thirds of local authorities were women. Through interactive discussions, participants shared their success stories in governance. Furthermore, they identified challenges facing Abdiaziz’s local government operations and the best ways to address them. In terms of methodologies, participants were divided into small interactive groups and requested to discuss specific issues and then come back together to present their findings to the entire participants, followed by comments and questions. Participants expressed the positive impact the workshop can potentially have on their governance style.
